I broke my lens in November and haven't found a replacement yet so I haven't been taking photos or doing much of anything since Novemeber. I have nothing to blog about so I thought I'd just pick my favorite photos from '09. Each photo has some kind of story or purpose behind it and reflects my emotions about the year. This year was interesting, mostly random, but def. interesting. I enjoyed myself for most of it. Productivity is #1 on my list of shit to do for 2010 haha and I'm going to cut back on the Red Bull. Ten days until I leave LA for SF

Last weekend I went up to San Francisco to get to know the city a little better before I moved up there for school. I'm now more than familiar with about five of the bus lines that run up there as well as the different areas. I didn't do too much shopping up there unlike last time but it was still fun!! I stayed in a rented apartment for four days in the Divisadero area and ended up discovering a few places that I might become a regular at. I'm kind of sad that I can't see all my friends before I leave, but I'm definitely coming back for Thanksgiving so I'll catch up with them then :] Three months away from home won't be that bad...
My cousin and I stayed up until 6:30 in the morning burning CDs for our trip then we ran (literally ran, I haven't ran since I had PE in high school) to Mc donalds to pick up breakfast.

The weather there was fantastic! On my last day it actually hit 80 degrees (which is pretty unusual for SF).

Graduation was boring. It was hot and I was thirsty. Mr. Garcia was annoying as fuck especially when he would interrupt the name calling ceremony just to tell parents to stop whistling and standing up. Meh-it could have been better. I was glad my family was there to lighten my mood! I was texting them nonstop during it. I graduated in the top 10% of my class, had the gold rope thingy (3.6 gpa+), and a sash for being in ASB-woot woot!

My family threw a party/BBQ for my mom (CalStateLA), my cousin (Granada Charter HS) and I celebrating our graduations. We celebrated with MOOAARRR HANSEN'S CAKE!! The day of the party just so happened to be the day of the Lakers vs Magic game, so they ended up celebrating the win for LA too! Too bad I'm not a fan of sports.

Museum Studies has been begging Dr. Coad since the beginning of the year to let us come over and have a bbq and he finally obliged the day of our final! Ahhh I loved his home!! He bought the home in the 1990's and has been renovating it on his own for the past ten years. He did all the wood work and decorating himself! He even installed a little rock path that lights up at night in his backyard!!!

Every year in ASB the seniors and their advisers go out to dinner to reminisce about the past year and all that jazz. This year we decided to go to the Cheesecake factory. Ahh the bill was like $300 dollars-muy carro!

The day before graduation my friend Phoebe invited a bunch of us over to her house to have a little poolside fiesta. Since I can't swim at all-I stayed my ass in the jacuzzi. They finally convinced me to get in to the pool but I would NOT go past 3/4 ft. I was not down to have a near death experience before I graduated high school lol. Overall, it was the perfect way to end my last year in high school.

Today was my first time painting-like with an easel, brushes, and canvas. It was weird stepping in to the shoes of an artist. It was sooooo hard for me to focus on what to paint because in my head I was reciting names and styles of artists I studied in Art History and Museum Studies. I was seriously thinking "No, can't do that Mondrian did that. No, can't do that-Eric Fishl did that..." the whole time I was there. In the end my painting looked like a bootleg Fauvism piece that had no place to be but in someone's bathroom or something...fail? lol. But, I did make friends with a dog named Mojito today. He's canadian yuuuuuup.

Chapman University VS University of San Francisco

Both schools are in California, Private(Jesuit), offer my major of Advertising, and have small classes. Money isn't an issue because I got offered about the same amount in financial aid.
Chapman has the better Advertising program, but it's in the middle of the OC. The area looks so boring-it has it's own town square.
USF doesn't seem to have a good academic reputation but the city is awesome!!
Chapman is only an hour away from home.
USF is six hours away from home.

As you can see, I'm in quite a predicament right now.

I was so close to not going this year because I didn't have anyone to go with but luckily Whoopi was able to free up his schedule! Like usual it was beyond hot, crowded, and crazy. We stayed in this really nice hotel in Palm Springs and watched Spongebob Squarepants when we weren't out at Coachella. My dad came home Wednesday night and told me that we were going on an impromptu trip to San Francisco to visit the University of SF. Not going to lie, I threw a bit of a bitch fit because of the short notice and we had the whole "I'm not going to that school it's too far from home" argument. Thursday night we were on our way to SF with my cousin who was also interested in visiting. I must say, I fell completely in love with the city! So yaup, this fall I'll be blogging from SF. Six hours away suddenly doesn't look seem too far away. Although, I have a feeling my fickle personality will make me change my mind before May 1st.

On our way back from San Francisco we decided to visit the UC Santa Cruz campus since we were already on the road. Santa Cruz is approximately an hour away from SF and five hours from LA. Santa Cruz was sooooooooo beautiful!! It was really close to the beach and the air was fresh and breezy. The weather was wonderful!!! BUT, the campus was located in the middle of a fucking forest-we def saw beware of horse/deer crossing signs. I'm def. not down to live that up close and personal with nature.

Friday, ASB's Senior class made and distributed the Crush Grams we have been selling. For me, it was more of taking pictures, complaining, and eating candy! Friday night, I had dinner with friends at this new Korean bbq place in Culver City called Gyenari. It's supposed to be one of those trendy and expensive places that have some kind of unique trademark that attracts customers. At Gyenari, it's the cool water fountain in the entrance, the back wall that's completely lit up, and wee stove top to cook your meal on. Dude, If I'm paying 35 dollars for my meal, which is what I paid, shouldn't they at least have the decency to cook FOR me. If I wanted to cook my own dinner I would've stayed at home, although it was soooooo FUNNNN cooking on that stove top...Saturday, I woke up and noticed my dad had left me a card and some really pretty flowers for Valentine's day! Then I nom nomed on some Tito's with Whoopi!

My friends and I went to the Music Academy's Dance Show. It wasn't as great as the last one I went to (which was in 10th grade), but there was some amazing displays of talent anyway. Who am I to judge whether it was good or not...I'm the least coordinated person on earth!! I'm still looking forward to the Spring Semester's Dance Show! After the show my friends and I decided to make mac&cheese, french fries, and cookies then watched "Sex and the City" and "Burn After Reading." Dude I was def. not aware of the MAJOR hot and steamy sex scenes in Sex and the City...but then again, I guess that's why its titled that way lol. Burn After Reading was funny, but it seemed like the LONGEST movie ever because the plot line was soooo slow.

The Little Person Incident

I was in a gas station because I needed a pack of Kool Kings. In line in front of me was a retarded midget. And I mean really retarded, as in mentally disabled. Now, I am lacking in every midget-appropriate social grace known to man. I have no idea how to behave when a midget, or otherwise tiny person, is nearby. I often confuse them with children and speak to them as such. Add retarded to the mix, and I'm outright socially crippled. Additionally, after all this time, I'm still not sure if this retarded midget was a girl or a boy, or a man or a woman. I am just going to refer to her as "her" because it's easier that way. Just keep in mind that she might have been a he.

She had no hair. Just peach fuzz on top of her head. She appeared to have a cold, which was creating a mess of mucus on her face. She was attempting to purchase a Pepsi, but she was 48 cents short. I happened to be holding, in my hand, two quarters. She was fumbling around for a few minutes, trying to locate 48 cents, and I was standing behind her holding the two quarters.

I feel sorry for retarded people. It broke my heart, this scene.

I walked up next to her and placed my two quarters on the counter.

"Here you go," I said, smiling at her.

The retarded midget turned her oozing face to mine. She smiled a really super big smile at me, which allowed me to pat myself on the back for a moment for my extraordinarily altruistic character.

Then:

"Thank you. Can I have a ride home?"

I stared at her painfully for about five seconds. I made a decision.

"No," I said.
"Why not?" She asked.

This is where I started to panic. I didn't want her to think that I was grossed out by her, and that I didn't want her coming in physical contact with my car. I didn't want her to think that it made me tremendously uncomfortable to be in such close vicinity with a midget, never mind a retarded one. I didn't want her to think that my charitable nature was strictly limited to those actions that cost fifty cents or less. These were the real reasons I declined to take the retarded midget home.

"I don't have enough gas," I lied.

"You are at a gas station. Get gas," she quipped. Outsmarted by a retarded midget.

"I don't have enough money." I lied.

"I just live right over that way," she said, pointing east.

"I'm going that way," I lied, pointing west.

"Then I live right over that way." She said, pointing west.

Now, that frightened me. Before, there was a retarded midget who didn't want to walk home asking me for a ride. Now there was a retarded midget attempting to fool me into granting her access to my car, and whose motivation for this behavior was ambiguous. Petrifying.

"No," I repeated, sticking to my guns.

I bought my cigarettes with her standing uncouthly close to me. Then I walked out of the gas station, with her following unnervingly near. I tried to ignore her, but it couldn't be done. I could practically feel her.

And then I broke. I began to run. I couldn't help myself. I was more than apprehensive at that point; I was terrified. I turned around while I ran. I don't know what I expected to see. I guess I wanted to see her face, whether I had offended her or not.

The retarded midget was chasing me. Stubby little legs zigzagging rapidly back and forth, mucus and saliva flying off of her face and into the air. She was visually livid, just absolutely irate, and determined to get me.

I got to my car, and it was like a horror movie. I fumbled with my keys. I dropped them on the ground and wasted time trying to retrieve them from under my car. The retarded midget was getting closer and closer.

Finally, I got my act together and opened my car door. I managed to slip in and slam the door shut right before she came, bashing into my window. Snot and spit smeared all over the window, and I screamed in terror. She was smashing her fist on the glass, hollering, noise, but no intelligible words.

I turned the keys with my shaking hand and started the car. She was still punching my window when I peeled out of the gas station to escape her dreadful attack.

This was one menacing retarded midget.

The incident ended there, but maybe the worst part of the whole thing was that no one believed me. I grew up in a small town, you see, and no one had ever heard of or seen a retarded midget living in the area. People tend to take notice of someone like that. There was Purple-Face Guy, Tanner the Wheelchair Kid, and the others, but no one knew of any local midgets, let alone retarded midgets.

Months after the episode, I was driving home from a friend's house. I saw her again, the retarded midget. She recognized my car, and me in it. She raised her arm and extended her pointer finger out to me. Kept it up, pointing at me, until I couldn't see her in my rearview mirror anymore.

I went to China. I saw Kanye West in concert with Alyssa.I ran against one of my best friends for Vice Prez of Student Government...and LOST.I learned how to ride a bike.I learned how to make coffee.I saw GirlTalk in concert with Whoopi.I got an iPhone.I got a DSLR.
Most importantly, I got Harry!! Everyone's favorite hamster.

Here's my first paragraph...

“The government is corrupt.” This statement is most heard from the mouths of disgruntled Left Wing Liberals. There has not been a single form of government in the history of man that has not had a problem with unscrupulous behavior. Sir Thomas More must have been on crack to ever believe there could be a way of life where politics, economics, and social issues coexisted peacefully. It is human nature to be ambitious; to want more, to be better-this desire is evident in the thinkers of The Enlightenment. Those Philosophers had goals and aspirations, whether it be discovering the basic unit of matter or completely revolutionizing the way of thinking. Marx believed that like other socioeconomic systems, Capitalism would fail and would ultimately lead to Socialism, the archenemy of Red State Conservatives. Thomas Frank an obvious Left Wing sympathizer and author of What’s The Matter With Kansas? describes in his writing how Republicans created a political phenomenon that made it possible for them to take advantage of people that should have identified with the Left Wing ideologies but were persuaded to support Conservatism in the failing and corrupt government. Thomas Frank’s What’s The Matter With Kansas? and Al Gore’s Assault on Reason, another clearly Leftist publication analyzing the connection between reason and politics, are both very critical of the deregulated economy and Republican run government. Using these two works one can examine how the relationships between ideology, emotion, and reason are able to impact cultural identity among the working, lower, and middle classes and dominate traditional economic self-interest in American politics.

White Rabbits are a type of candy made in China that can be purchased in the U.S. On my recent trip to China my friends decided to pick up a bunch of bags to bring back home because they were cheaper there. Little did they know they would be recalled in the months following the trip haha
Melamine is a white powdery industrial chemical, which can cause kidney stones and lead to kidney failure. The chemical has been mixed with dry dairy products in China, which are in turn used as ingredients in other foods. Thousands were hospitalized and four infants died late last month after ingesting the chemical via milk products.

White Rabbit candy is on a growing list of products imported from China which may contain melamine. The candy comes in several flavors, with the creamy flavors usually sold in 8- and 16-ounce bags.
